The Afghan economy with a population of 31.1 Million (Est 2013) ranks 103rd in the world with a GDP PPP of 35.1 billion and GDP PPP per capita of 1,150 vs 53,101 (United States) according to the IMF in 2013. The national currency within the country is the Afghan afghani (AFN) which is issued by its local central bank, 'Da Afghanistan Bank' (DAB) (centralbank.gov.af). Local banking institutions in Afghanistan offer similar international short term (savings account with a floating rate) and long term ('fixed deposit' account with a fixed interest and a fixed term) savings products for their citizens. The CIA.gov inflation rate estimate was 6.8% in 2012 and 5.7% in 2011.
